ABOUT ME

My name is Mallory Dowiat, though most know me by Mal and my online alias, Bite. I am a 22 year old LGBTQ+ Graphic Designer with a focus in Illustration.I was born in the small town of Carpentersville, Illinois and grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. I attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design & Media and a minor in Creative Writing.I have been mostly self-taught in art and animation for 8+ years and have begun working in more professional fields as of 2025.My love for the creative world lies in a passion for storytelling through animation and illustrations! My lifelong goal is to develop my own series of stories to publish as graphic novels or as an animated series that can be streamed worldwide.

ARTIST STATEMENT

As a child, I was lonely; I preferred to keep to myself in favor of creating art, whether it be through scribbling colorful chalk all over the concrete sidewalk, folding pieces of sticky notes into little creatures, and drawing unique faces on my new companions, or by scribbling all over my third-grade math homework. I grew up to be very different in the eyes of most people, even my own loved ones. They would tell me, “You have too many colors swimming in your head.”
However, that wasn’t true at all; I had far fewer colors in my head than I would have liked.
During my High School years and beyond, I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Severe Depression, OCD, and ADHD. Though it hindered me greatly, I never allowed it to come between my passion for art and my desire to inspire joy and warmth in the hearts of my peers in a way that makes them feel seen. If I can make even one person’s day a little easier and inspire a smile on their face, then I have done my job.I have always been interested in exploring themes of grief and loss, as well as the methods and ways in which one may cope with them. Furthermore, I enjoy incorporating symbolism into my work and conveying its hidden meaning. I‘ve been told that my work comes across as soft and comfortable, thanks to the bright colors and delicate, detailed linework, along with the depiction of warm scenes featuring characters smiling or embracing, or adorable, fluffy animals interacting. However, many pieces include haunting undertones that leave the viewer searching for various clues and outlining the symbolic details hidden within the puzzle. With the help of social media platforms like TikTok and YouTube, I have been given the opportunity to share my work with people worldwide and have since built a cult following. I have been skittering around in the shadows of these apps and websites since I was in the sixth grade, but it wasn’t until 2023 that I made a name for myself under the alias “Bite,” better known as “beddybites.” I post a wide variety of digitally drawn and animated content, including skits, animatics, storyboards, collaborative works, and personal animated projects. As of July 2025, I have created and sold over 2,000 stickers and keychains to customers around the nation and overseas. I plan to continue this small business and start a series of graphic novels after graduating from UNLV in Spring 2026 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design and Media, along with a minor in Creative Writing.

UNDERGRADUATE WORK

GRUNGE BAND

Spring 2025 - Undergraduate Project
During the Spring 2025 semester at UNLV, I was tasked with creating a fictional grunge band, band members included, along with various promotional products for it. The name "King of the Birds" was in reference to the fictional band leader, Wren, as wren birds are known as that same title. "Wren Day" is in reference to an Irish holiday in which men hunt down a wren bird. Songs incorporated themes of mental health, feminism, corruption, drugs, and other various themes in the grunge genre.

Along with developing various advertisements and merchandise, I was also tasked with creating a teaser video for the fictional band, King of the Birds and their recent album, Wren Day

BIRTH ORDER ILLUSTRATED MAGAZINE

Spring 2025 - Undergraduate Project
The entire semester of my Design & Media III class was dedicated to developing a fictional magazine. I had always been fixated on the psychology of birth order, and I wanted to dedicate my magazine to informing viewers of the theory. Though it generated more work for me, I wanted to experiment with the project by illustrating all of the visuals within.

HORROR BOOK JACKET & HORROR MOVIE POSTER

Fall 2022 - Undergraduate Project
Students were asked to recreate a book jacket of an already existing book. I chose The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson and used Adobe Illustrator to create a more modern-looking graphic of the house.
After being tasked with creating a self portrait using the format of a movie poster, I chose to base mine of off my favorite genre, Horror. I struggle with Facial Dysphoria, and my name means "bad" in various languages... so I combined the two concepts to create an indie horror poster!

RESTAURANT MENU

Fall 2023 - Undergraduate Project
During the Fall 2023 semester at UNLV, I had to make a restaurant menu along with promotional material for it. I was inspired by Buddy V's italian restaurant in the Venetian, and incorporated my family members in the menu. The initials, "DD," are my father's. I went for a more laid-back vibe with the restaurant, and created a color palette and visuals to represent a warm and retro place for friends and family to eat and enjoy each other's company.
